Abel Mountain Campground

Description: Located on the third branch of the White River, Abel Mountaini Campground features 93 grassy sites (many shaded) with 78 full hook-ups and 15 water/electric only sites. 37 of the sites are riverbank sites, and they also have 15 pull-through sites for any size RV. Among the perks here: a pool, two playgrounds, basketball, horseshoe pit, biking and walking trails (270 acres of trails in all). They also feature a number of activities throughout the season, including bingo, ice cream socials, pot luck suppers, pig roasts, Christmas in July and ongoing activities such as kayaking, tubing and fishing.

Cost: Base rate: $21 (2005)

Directions: Take exit 4 (Randolph) off I-89, go west on Route 66 for 2.5 miles, then take Route 12A for 2.5 miles on the left.
