Virtual Vermonter - Ethan Allen Homestead

Located off Route 127 in Burlington, VT, the Ethan Allen Homestead features the home that revolutionary war hero and Vermont founder Ethan Allen established for his family. The home is authentically recreated from the remains of the original and has been furnished with authentic pieces from the period.

Of the 100 acres that originally made up the Allen farm, 284 remain that make up the public park surrounding the house. The Homestead features volunteer-guided tours, a multimedia exhibit of Allen's career, Vermont history and 18th century life (shown in a recreated 19th century tavern) and a museum store that sells replicas, books, videos and more. The Homestead's programs make for a great destination for school groups, and a number of events, like the Homestead Festival and Fiddler's Reunion (July) and the Haunted Homestead (+/- Halloween) have sprung up around it over the years.

The Ethan Allen Homestead is open year-round on the following schedule:

  • May 20-June 17, 1-5 every day
  • June 18-October 20, Mon-Sat, 10-5; Sun 1-5
  • October 21-May 18, call for hours (1-802-865-4556)

Prices include tours, multimedia exhibits and access to the hundreds of acres of grounds, trails, etc.:

  • Adults $5
  • Children $2.50
  • Seniors $4
  • Family $14
