North-Central Vermont Camping

1)Abel Mountain Campground - Located on the third branch of the White River, Abel Mountain Campground features 93 grassy sites (many shaded) with 78 full hook-ups and 15 water/electric only sites. 37 of the sites are riverbank sites, and they also have 15 pull-through sites for any size RV. Braintree.

2)Allis State Park - The park consists of 18 tent sites and 8 lean-to sites. There is a fire tower located at the picnic area from which there are excellent views of central Vermont. Randolph.

3)Common Ground Recreation Park - OK, these folks have all the fun toys. Included here are an in-ground pool, arcade/rec. hall, playground, go-karts, bumper boats and even an 18-hole mini golf course. For those looking for the camping 411, they have 30 grassy and wooded sites for those with RVs (WE) or tents. Hyde Park.

4)Elmore State Park - The campground has 45 tent/trailer sites and 15 lean-tos. Two restrooms are available in the campground; one with hot showers ($). A sanitary dump station is available, but no hookups. There is convenient access to several hiking trails to Elmore Mountain and it's fire tower. The day use area includes a large sandy beach, historic CCC bathhouse with a concession stand, restrooms and a rental pavilion, a picnic shelter, numberous tables and grills, and row boat, canoe and kayak rentals. Elmore.

5)Gold Brook Campground - Features 79 sites for tents and campers. Some of the perks here include cable and phone hookup (contact them prior to arrival to arrange this), shuffleboard, a pool, rec. hall, playground and nearby activities such as fishing, hunting, hiking, skiing and snowmobiling. Stowe.

6)Green Valley Campground - Features 45 sites in all, a community fireplace, swimming and more. Local attractions include the State Capitol and Granite Quarries. East Montpelier.

7)Groton Forest Road Campground - Located halfway between St. Johnsbury and Barre, Groton Forest Road Campground features 30 sites, a pool and a playground. The surrounding area is virtually littered with lakes, and Marshfield Dam is a short 5 minute drive. Marshfield.

8)Kettle Pond State Park - The campground has 27 lean-tos arranged into five separate groups. There are three double pit toilets and a hand pump well. There is a cartop boat launch, swimming area, and access to miles of hiking trails. Also available are seven remote campsites. Marshfield.

9)Lake Champagne Campground - Lake Champagne Campground offers 132 wooded and open sites, as well as a wide variety of activities/features, including a 3-acre pond (shaped like a champagne glass, hence the name), large rec hall, pavilion, basketball, horseshoes, volleyball, shuffleboard, table tennis, kite flying, arcade, billiards and much more. Randolph.

10)Lazy Lions Campground - Lazy Lions Campground also offers a rustic cabin for those of you who don't own (or aren't traveling in) an RV, but still look for comfort and convenience in camping accommodations. For those of you who like to "rough it," try our secluded tent sites or our unique Lean-To Shelter." There are 34 sites here in all. Barre.

11)Limehurst Lake Campground - 73 sites partially shaded on a 13 acre private lake. Fish without a license, and it is free fishing. We offer for your comfort and convenience: full hookup sites with free tv hookups, 20,30, 50 amps. Metered LP gas, pets welcome, modem friendly. Williamstown.

12)Little River State Park - Little River State Park, which is part of Mt. Mansfield State Forest, primarily consists of a campground with 81 tent/trailer sites and 20 leantos. This is central Vermont's largest and most popular campground. Waterbury.

13)Meadowcrest Campground - Meadowcrest Campground offers 16 sites (14 WES, 2 tent sites) and a rec. hall with modem hookup. Marshfield.

14)Mountain View Campground & Cabins - They have 63 sites and feature a hot tub, two swimming pools, free miniature golf, a playground, volleyball and more. Morristown.

15)New Discovery State Park - The campground has 47 tent/trailer sites and 14 lean-tos. Both rest rooms include hot showers ($). A sanitary dump station is available, but no hookups. There is a play area and access to miles of hiking trails. A picnic shelter with rest rooms is located at Osmore Pond about one mile from the campground. Also available are five remote campsites. Marshfield.

16)Onion River Campground - Located just 15 minutes from the Cabot cheese factory, Onion River Campground features 24 sites and a host of activities, including trout fishing, hiking and mountain biking. Marshfield.

17)Rest n' Nest Campground - Carved out of the woods, the campground, better known as "THE CAMPGROUND WITH ELBOW ROOM" pleads guilty of extra large sites, we cater to all sizes of camping units, no size too small or too large. We have a quiet and relaxing atmosphere for those wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city or a change of pace. Swim in our spring-fed pond or our new pool, play horseshoes, volleyball, badminton or video games in our game room. The younger set will enjoy our playground with a simulated space ship. Thetford.

18)Smugglers Notch State Park - The campground has 21 tent/trailer sites and 14 lean-tos. One of the two rest rooms includes hot showers ($). Stowe.

19)Thetford Hill State Park - There is one camping loop with 14 tent sites and 2 lean-to sites. One rest room with running water and hot showers ($) are located in this area. Thetford.
