Virtual Vermonter - Bicycling

Vermont By Pedal

When it comes to really getting a feel for Vermont, viewing it by bike is tough to beat. Whether you're a seasoned bicyclist, or just are looking for a way to get closer to the Vermont land and people while getting a little exercise at the same time, setting out in any part of the state on two wheels is sure to provide you with a rewarding and memorable experience. If you're looking for something specific, we've broken the biking options into the following sections:

Touring Companies

There are a number of bike tour companies operating throughout the state, and they can vary greatly from each other on the types of tours they offer, the number of "extra" activities (ex. hiking, kayaking) that they include or that are optional, the price, dates and lengths of tours, etc. Most tours average 12-20 people and are led by an experienced guide. They all offer Websites which much more information (including pricing and availability), and most have catalogs that you can order for free online.

Bike Vermont

When it comes to the sheer number of tours available, you can't beat Bike Vermont. Most of the tours feature inn-to-inn biking, where you travel (at your own pace) from one inn to another while a van serves as luggage carrier/mobile repair shop/rolling snack bar. Bike Vermont offers around twenty tours covering the whole state, from the Shelburne/Lake Champlain and Northeast Kingdom areas down to several central and southern Vermont tours (some with kayaking or hiking options). The length of the tours run from three to seven days, and their Website does a great job of breaking down the tour options and listing pricing and availability. You can make reservations online, or call 1-800-257-2226. Bike Vermont also offers tour options on Ireland and Scotland.
